Sony Computer Entertainment's Chief Executive of worldwide studios, Shushei Yoshida, admitted that the company recognizes that it was late to the party in integrating a program-wide-cut online organization for the PlayStation home.

The latest issue of Edge magazine publisher has its embrace feature devoted to the brand-red-hot repackaged PS3 Lose weight, including an interview with Sony big fish Yoshida, in which atomic number 2 admits that their competitor Microsoft had beaten them to the poke as far as online functionality was concerned, in both the last generation and this one:

"I intend we were late to volunteer the platform-even out support, to make the online functionality work on that level.

"We ready-made the prior decision that you do non introduce the inferior centralized network names into all go through, so publishers ready-made their own. That was fine at the start, but as more and more games have online functionality you penury a unified approach.

"So Microsoft took that approach path in the last generation, and maybe that's where people pick up the deviation when they compare Xbox Live and PSN."

It might be granitic to remember spine to the last generation, simply there was one time a sentence when non all online games went through Xbox Live operating theatre the PlayStation Network – when numerous games and companies had their personal proprietary networks and matchmaking services. Now, all of these new systems, with their friends lists and their Twitterbooks… why, back in the day, we had to bring altogether of our friends manually for apiece game! Uphill in the C! Er, sorry, got a bit off data track.

Yoshida says that the company is superficial to correct that equally they move forward with things like the Holocene 3.0 firmware update – and that they might be looking to partner in the lead with social networking giant Facebook: "Something like 300 million people already have accounts on Facebook.
